The Macedon Ranges Field Naturalists was established in 2020 to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the flora, fauna and fungi of the Macedon Ranges Shire situated in regional central Victoria.
Through sharing this knowledge the group aims to foster an interest in the region’s natural values and to help preserve its native species, communities and ecosystems.
Our logo features the Brush-tailed phascogale (Phascogale tapoatafa). This native carnivorous marsupial resides in small pockets of the Macedon Ranges and is classified as vulnerable.
We focus on four main themes.

Surveys of flora, fauna and fungi
During our field trips we record what we observe by taking photos of the flora, fauna and fungi. These records are uploaded to projects on iNaturalist after each field trip.
Information provided to iNaturalist aids in monitoring the locations and density of endangered, common, native and introduced species.
